Consider the Complex Crammed: United Way-Led Food Drive Collects 10,000 Items for Holidays

The Franklin-Grand Isle United Way’s annual Cram the Complex food drive usually means one thing… volunteers will end up counting a lot of chow.

During this year’s Cram the Complex - one of the most massive holiday food drives in the region - volunteers and donors attempted to cram the Collins-Perley Sports Complex in St. Albans with food donations for local families. Over 10,000 items were collected this year, including over $800 in donations.

RADIO-THON ACHIEVES FUNDRAISING GOAL

Difficult economic circumstances didn’t deter the Franklin-Grand Isle United Way from achieving their Radio-thon goal last Thursday. The event, which is held annually as part of the Fundraising Campaign registered $11,200 in donations. The total exceeded this year’s established goal of $10,000.

Thinking About Volunteers

Common wisdom says that if you want something to get done you have to ask a busy person. In my experience, that is the very nature of effective volunteers. Coming into a new position as the Executive Director for Franklin Grand-Isle United Way, I work every day with leadership volunteers in the form of a Board of Directors. So it comes as no surprise that volunteers have been on my mind quite a bit lately.
