Many people think that the role of the Franklin-Grand Isle United Way (FGIUW) is to hold it's annual fund raising campaign. In reality, we do so much more!
In Franklin and Grand Isle Counties, we are proud of the actual work we do to help improve the quality of life for our community. Here is a sampling of the other activities that help us make a difference, community by community.
BornLearning: The BornLearning campaign includes nationwide television, radio, newspaper, magazine, billboard, transit and Web banner ads; parent and caregiver education materials that can be customized locally; a website with action tips, information and resources for parents and caregivers; and support for community mobilization activities.
VT 2-1-1: FGIUW is an active partner in developing VT 2-1-1, a health services information and referral phone system for the state of Vermont.
Boost America: Through a program of the United Way of America, FGIUW is working with the Franklin and Grand Isle County Sheriff Departments, the Vermont Department of Health, and the Governor's Highway Safety Commission to distribute free booster seats to income eligible families.
Office Supply Distribution: Through partnerships with individuals and businesses such as Staples, IBM, and Office Quarters, FGIUW distributes donated office supplies and computers to area agencies in need.
Grant Writing: FGIUW has played an active role in supporting area agencies, such as Champlain Islands Parent Child Center, In a Family Way, and Success By Six, in writing grants to support their valuable services.
