About the Program
L.E.A.D. is a unique program designed to give potential community leaders the training and confidence to become leaders in northwest Vermont. Seminars are held once a month over a ten month period covering a vast array of public service areas.
What To Expect
Through a series of monthly interactive seminars, participants will learn the intricacies of human services, economy & environment, government & politics, community leadership, law & justice, education communications & media, and health care. Each seminar includes discussion, tours, debates, and presentations by leaders in the field. The class will also break into groups to work on projects on behalf of community organizations. The team projects will develop participants' skills in project management as they seek solutions to significant issues facing the community.
The Application Process
The Franklin - Grand Isle L.E.A.D. Board of Directors reviews all applications. Limited to 20 participants each year, this competitive program accepts applications from employers, organizations and directly from interested citizens.
The Commitment
The L.E.A.D. Franklin - Grand Isle Program will provide participants with the forum to gain knowledge and insight into community issues and leadership skills. Class members are required to attend all monthly seminars. Active participation in the team projects requires an additional commitment of time and energy. These projects provide meaningful real life examples of leadership.
Registration Fee
The registration fee is $650 per person.
Scholarships
It is important that financial considerations are not an impediment to those interested in this leadership program. To be successful, this program must appeal to our counties' best talent, regardless of one's resources. To that effort, The St. Albans Messenger funds an endowment program, the proceeds to be used for tuition payments for those candidates best suited for the leadership program. The endowment is to be named in honor of Frank Lester Greene (1870-1930) of St. Albans, who is the only person born in St. Albans to be elected to the United States Senate. The distinguished senator was also editor of the St. Albans Messenger. The Scholarships are to go to those who embody the positive examples of character, leadership and community involvement.
